Select, sustain, switch

Attention games that reward careful noticing

Find the signal among the noise, keep the rule in mind and adjust when the task changes. Attention games create a short space for deliberate responses.

Three attention demands

What the game may ask you to do

Different tasks place attention on selection, consistency or the ability to change rules.

Select

Respond to the relevant feature while allowing competing details to remain in the background.

Hold

Keep the instruction in mind through a complete sequence of prompts.

Switch

Notice when the rule changes and adjust the response rather than following the old pattern.

Accuracy before speed

Give yourself time to understand the rule

Fast responses only help when they are responding to the right thing. Start by learning the signal.

  • Read the rule twice before beginning.
  • Identify the target in simple language.
  • Notice recurring mistakes instead of tapping faster.
  • Pause between rounds when attention begins to drift.

Short attention routine

Prepare, play, review

Prepare

Choose the task and remove one immediate source of interruption.

Play

Complete one round with accuracy as the first objective.

Review

Notice which prompts drew attention away from the intended target.

Important distinction: Attention games are entertainment and structured practice. They do not diagnose or treat an attention condition.
